ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES: THE CINEMA OF DEEPA MEHTA
February 13, 2010 until March 7, 2010

Since moving to Canada from her native India over three decades ago, Deepa Mehta has fashioned one of the most challenging and accessible bodies of work in contemporary Canadian cinema. Incorporating complex issues of gender, ethnicity, and identity into feature dramatic narratives, Mehta’s work confronts the complicated relationship between the political and the personal, the individual and the collective. By extension, the intelligent work of Deepa Mehta opens up productive debates about the possibilities for a multi-ethnic Canadian society of the 21st Century.  The Canadian Film Institute is proud to present this retrospective of the work of Deepa Mehta.
