DOCUMENTING CHILE: NOW AND THEN
September 18, 2010

The month of September is a critical in the history of Chile. September 18 is Chile’s national independence day, and 2010 is the bicentennial of the independence of Chile. The nation also has its own September 11 experience: that was the day in 1973 when the ouster of President Salvador Allende took place. Beyond history and politics, but also deeply enmeshed in its debates, the cinema of Chile has produced some of the most powerful documentaries in the history of cinema. Indeed, like Canada, Chile is renowned for its documentary film tradition. The CFI is pleased to present this special evening of documentaries curated in collaboration with acclaimed Chilean-Canadian filmmaker, Leuten Rojas.
