Juan Carlos Falcón’s amazing feature debut, THE WOODEN BOX is an award-winning, crowd-pleasing dark comedy about life, death, sex and the secrets that bind people together.  Set in a Canaries fishing village during the 1960s, the film opens with the sudden death of unpopular local man, Don Lucio. Because of a lack of space, his wife Eloísa cannot keep the body in the house and her neighbour Isabel is given the responsibility of hiding the corpse. While the widow gets over the grief, neighbours line up on the evening before the funeral to pay their dues to her dead husband.  In the process, strange and sordid details begin to emerge.  Reminiscent of the macabre sense of humour of Spanish master Luis Bunuel, THE WOODEN BOX is an appalling good time.

Comédie grinçante primée qui attire les foules, LA CAJA traite de la vie, de la mort, de rapports sexuels et de secrets qui unissent.  Situé dans un village de pêcheurs des Canaries dans les années 1960, le film s'ouvre sur la mort subite d'un villageois impopulaire, Don Lucio. Faute d'espace, son épouse Eloisa ne peut garder le corps dans la maison et charge sa voisine Isabel de cacher le cadavre. La veille des funérailles, tandis que la veuve vit son deuil, des voisins viennent rendre hommage au défunt. C'est ainsi que peu à peu est levé le voile sur des détails étranges et sordides. Rappelle le macabre sens de l'humour du maître espagnol Luis Buñuel.
