Our 19th season showcasing Canada’s most experimental, inspiration moving image artists opens with a memorial tribute to the influential experimental filmmaker and teacher, Mike Cartmell (1952-2014). An inspiration artist whose work has influenced filmmakers like Mike Hoolboom, Philip Hoffman, and others, Cartmell was also a remarkable moving image maker.

We will present a selection of works by Mike Cartmell, as well as launch a new CFI publication entitled, Disasterologies: Essays by Mike Cartmell, edited by Mike Hoolboom (Canadian Film Institute 2016).

Award-winning experimental filmmaker Philip Hoffman will attend the screening to introduce and discuss Mike Cartmell’s work. Doors open at 7:00pm. Admission is "pay-what-you-can". Cash bar and snacks available.
