The central drama of the film involves an Uruguayan lawyer investigating the 1993 murder of Eugenio Berríos, a Chilean chemical engineer who had allegedly helped Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet research chemical and biological weapons. Though Uruguay reestablished its democracy in 1985, the film focuses on efforts by the Uruguayan military to cover up the murder as part of an ongoing pact between Latin American dictatorships. A powerful glimpse into the struggles of Latin Americans trying to expose the brutalities of the Southern Cone dictatorships. Uruguay’s Official Submission to the 2009 Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. English sub-titles.
