UN PROPHETE is acclaimed director Audiard’s stunning film about a young French-Arab man who is sent to prison and must learn how to deal with the penal system in France. The title character, Malik El Djebena, becomes involved with a mob boss, who forces him to torture other prisoners, which leads him to becoming the head of one of the gangs within the prison walls. Throughout his time in prison, Malik learns who his allies are and who should not be trusted.  Film critic Jonathan Romney writes, UN PROPHETE “works both as hard-edged, painstaking detailed social realism and as a compelling genre entertainment” (Screen International).  The film has received praise at numerous prestigious film festivals, including the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes 2009.  English subtitles.
