Yang Yang
dir. Cheng Yu-Chieh
Taiwan, 2009
English Subtitles

Auditorium, 395 Wellington St., Friday, September 17, 2010, 7:00 pm
Yang Yang has a French father. “Oh, so you speak French?,” she is often asked. In fact, she doesn’t speak a word of French because she’s never met her father. Her life grows more complicated when her mother remarries Yang Yang’s athletics coach. On top of this, Yang Yang is approached to be a model because of her Eurasian features. Coping with her mother’s new marriage and questions of her own identity, Yang Yang seeks her own path to happiness. A fascinating film about the politics of identity in contemporary Taiwan, YANG YANG was featured in the Panorama section of the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.

Presented in collaboration with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (Ottawa). English sub-titles. Free admission.
