Si Pu˛ Fare (We Can Do That)
dir. Giulio Manfedonia
Italy, 2008, 111 minutes

Auditorium, 395 Wellington St., Wednesday, May 11, 2011, 7:00 pm
A hit at the 2010 European Union Film Festival, this hilarious film is based on a true story. Set in Milan in the early 1980s, Nello is a trade unionist whose ideas are ahead of his time. Because of his reputation as a troublemaker, he is dismissed and is sent to run a cooperative of over-medicated, under-stimulated but potentially creative mentally ill patients released after the closure of psychiatric hospitals. Against all odds, the stubborn and passionate Nello manages to bring out the best in his new employees and to restore their dignity as they become specialists in “mosaic parquet”, an innovative and profitable business that helps them reintegrate into society. A soulful, funny and moving modern fairy tale.

Presented by Mad About the Arts in honour of Mental Health Week.

Mad About the Arts is a coalition of Ottawa-based mental health agencies, consumers, arts organizations, and interested community and corporate members that organize or sponsor art and cultural events with the aim of increasing public awareness about mental health and reducing the stigma associated with mental illness.

Followed by a reception and exhibit by local artists and photographers with a personal experience of mental illness.
