THE FILMS OF GIEDRE BEINORIUTE
dir. GIEDRE BEINORUITE
Lithuania, 120 minutes
English Subtitles

Auditorium, 395 Wellington St., Friday, September 26, 2008, 7:00 pm
Presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Lithuania, the CFI is pleased to present three films by Lithuanian filmmaker Giedrė Beinoriute.  The filmmaker will be in attendance to introduce and discuss her work. Giedrė Beinoriute was born in 1976 in Vilnius. She studied TV directing at the Faculty of Theatre and Film of the Lithuanian Academy of Music, where in 1999 and 2002, respectively, she received her BA and MA in TV directing.

Grandpa and Grandma (2007)
This original film made from photographs, documentary footage and animation narrates the story of the director's grandparents who were deported to Siberia during the Soviet period. The film premiered in March 2007 in Vilnius during the festival of films by female directors, "Cherchez le femme.”

Existence (2004)
Existence is an ironic story about the unpredictability of human existence. The main characters of the film are two crazy old women driving an original velomobile, the young photographer shooting weddings and funerals, and the sexy girl whom he just met. The old women are thinking about death, the young couple about eternal love. Unfortunately, life may and does take unpredictable turns.

Trolleybus City (2002)
An amusing documentary about public transportation inspectors and "hares". The ever recurring conflicts between inspectors and "hares" are portrayed looking at the situation from an outsider's point of view. The film touches upon interesting social and existential problems of daily life.
