Volunteer Opportunity to Join the Board of Directors of the Canadian Film Institute
Are you passionate about cinema and the production, distribution, study and appreciation of moving images and promoting their cultural and educational value in Canada and abroad?

The Canadian Film Institute (CFI) is a non-profit cultural organization. It is the oldest film institution in Canada and the second oldest film institute in the world. The CFI’s mandate is to encourage and promote the production, diffusion, study, appreciation and use of moving images for cultural and educational purposes across Canada and Abroad. To this end it organizes a regular public program of contemporary, historical, and international cinema in the national capital region, presented in various venues in Ottawa.  It also curates and circulates a number of its film series to various cinémathèques in cities across Canada.  In addition, it publishes books and monographs on various aspects of Canadian cinema for use in educational institutions. CFI is also the owner and organizer of the Ottawa International Animation Festival, the second largest event in the world.

We are seeking volunteers to serve on the CFI Board of Directors which meets on a quarterly basis and provides governance direction and support to the Executive Director and team of dedicated staff. The Board represents a diverse array of skills and experiences. Board members also volunteer their time and expertise in promoting CFI and expanding its network of supporters and donors.

Ideal candidates have demonstrated experience with Board duties and governance issues and expertise and/or experience in any of the following areas: social media, film production and distribution, animation and fundraising. We especially encourage applications from women, members of visible minorities, Indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities. Bilingualism is an asset.
