Created in 1997, the goal of the Latin American Film Festival has always been to increase the awareness, appreciation, and understanding of Latin American cinema in Canada's capital. Over the first 20 years of programming and organizing this public festival, in collaboration with our generous partners at the GRULA (the group of Latin American embassies accredited by the Government of Canada), we have presented 265 Ottawa premieres of Latin American films, welcomed over 20 visiting filmmakers, and attracted close to 60,000 spectators.
The Latin American Film Festival is now one Ottawa's most eagerly anticipated annual cultural events. This is due to the energy of the Latin American embassies and staff, our festival sponsors, our volunteers, and you, the generous public who come to the screenings to explore the incredible richness, diversity, and artistry of Latin American cinema. The event features only contemporary Ottawa premieres, gleaned from the screens of such festivals as Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, and Chicago to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of Latin America.

Introduced in 2014 and back again for 2017, the Canadian Film Institute is thrilled to announce the return of ¡Fiesta Latina!
With the generous support of GRULA, we are proud to open this year's 21st Latin American Film Festival with an evening of art, music, dance, food, and drink in celebration of the varied and exuberant culture of Latin America! On Wednesday, April 12th, join us at Arts Court for ¡Fiesta Latina! and enjoy a wide variety of fare and fun organized by the Canadian Film Institute and provided by Ottawa's own Latin American community.
¡Fiesta Latina! will begin at 7:00pm and run into the night, so stop by anytime!
